I got to learn from a totally cool penguin simulation in a science classroom today! 10 students pretended to be penguins. Each had a baggie for a stomach. "Food" was hidden around the room. One of the penguins had an injured foot and had to hop. Another penguin had a baby to feed. The penguins went around the room and "ate food" in a certain amount of time. Then the students added up the weight in food (great job including adding decimal numbers) to see how much food the penguin ate. The simulation will continue for 3 days (or in class, 3 rounds) where at the end students will explore the limitations of an ecosystem. WOW! What an amazing interactive way to help kids reach the science standard!!

I was able to see this in action as well! What a great way to engage students in a meaningful hands-on activity!
